Paper roll napkin ring – recycling crafts

paper roll napkin rings - recycling crafts|marmite et ponpon

Recycling mania is still on. Usually we do this type of crafts, but a lot more these days (and it makes more sense for my son) because it falls in parallel with the school activities. They are learning about recycling and its benefits.

Today we are transforming a paper roll into napkin rings to host some friends in the afternoon for play and cake.

Simple, easy, quick and the outcome is beautiful. Follow the step by step tutorial.

Choose any paper pattern, could be simply from an old magazine you have. After all is done, Nady suggested that these napkin rings goes better as bangles for me since i am a girl 🙂 so he suggested to do a girly pattern for next time (not cars) to make bangles for mami!

It’s not just a kid craft. With another type of papers (maybe silver) it could be the napkin rings you use when having people for lunch or dinner.

Frogs Easter eggs – DIY

Frogs Easter eggs |marmite et ponpon

This year is Joud’s first Easter. There was no way not to make for him exclusive eggs, cute just like him; frogs Easter eggs!

Start by coloring the hard boiled eggs with green color. If you have different shades of colors it will be perfect to make it more realistic, or simply leave some eggs in the dye for longer and shorter time to get different hues of green.

After the eggs are well dry, stick the frog’s cutout face, that you can download it if you click on frogs file.

To make it look realistic, put them on a glass tray with some pebbles, an artificial lily to look as if they are floating in a lake.

Superheroes Easter eggs – DIY

easter eggs superheroes|marmite et ponpon

We’ve been talking about the superheroes eggs since last week, non stop! Nady can’t wait to decorate them. The excitement is invading his heart, so thrilled and happy,  he is up today at 6:00 am and ready to start coloring the eggs.

We can’t be late to start, he is jumping up and down uncontrollably, it’s one of the Easters i will never forget! The house is full of children joy, we are blessed!

We started to color the hard boiled eggs with red, blue, yellow, purple and we left some white. After they are dry and ready to work with, we cut out the shapes we want to stick on each egg. Batman on yellow eggs, superman on blue, red and yellow, hulk on green and purple, captain america on white and blue and finally spiderman on red.

Nady is enjoying so much coloring, cutting and pasting. I was proudly watching him doing things by himself and asking me not to interfere because he is a big boy now. Can’t express my feelings, i am overwhelmed!

Click on superheroes file to download a high resolution version to use.

Process art – Spinning for spring

spin art celebrating spring | marmite et ponponProcess art is when you’re enjoying the creative process, trying or inventing new techniques, introducing new elements from daily life, and the least you care about is working for the end result. In few words, process art is when the process of creating matters more than the result product.

Kids love process art, naturally they enjoy the journey more than the delivered product. They unleash their creativity, being all messy and mostly happy. Discovering and experiencing is the key! I was searching for a fun way of painting to start the spring/Easter decoration. I wanted Nady to be excited about the activity and enjoy the preparations. I came across the spin art paint.

Without thinking twice i knew this is the type of activity that Nady will love. I got a

  • salad spinner
  • vibrant colors paint
  • card boards (cut in 18x18cm square)

… and here we go!

Put the paper inside the salad spinner, squirt some paint and spin!

We repeated many times with different colors combination and each time was more beautiful. In spin art paint we didn’t just enjoy the process but we were in love with the end product as well! Nady didn’t want to stop.

We kept them overnight to dry before mounting them on foam boards.

Nady was so happy he couldn’t wait to hang them on the wall. We both enjoyed this process art and the surprise effect with each time we open the salad spinner to discover a new painting. We decided to do all our decorations this way!

The next day we repeated the same process with smaller pieces of paper to create a spring garland!

Handmade Christmas tree ornaments- crafts for tiny hands

handmade christmas tree ornamentsChristmas is my favorite holiday; so joyful, festive and special for what it represents. When you say Christmas you immediately think of the decorated trees, shopping for gifts, lights, beautiful decorations, happy family gatherings, jingle bells, yummy food, midnight mass, visiting friends and family, kids waiting for Santa… and by the way my husband proposed to me on the Christmas eve! I always thought it can’t get better until my love Nady was born, he became the Christmas and the joy of the family! I admit that kids take Christmas to another level of feelings to discover that happiness is a small word to what you actually feel. He changed the whole concept and added more magic and excitement to this season. This year, we are decorating the house together, and specifically the tree. Handmade ornaments with salt dough!  I love when he is involved in the crafts, it’s a quality and fun time together! Mon amour d’artiste! christmas tree with handmade ornaments:nadychristmas tree with handmade ornaments 3christmas tree with handmade ornaments 2Very simple craft, doesn’t require a lot of ingredients and the outcome is wow! With just flour, salt and water you can do these beautiful ornaments! Mix:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1/2 cup water

and knead until smooth. If your dough is still crumbly you can add more water, or if it’s sticky you can add flour, you can always correct flour and water to get the consistency you want. Add coloring gel to the dough or paint it later if your kids are old enough to create designs on them. I love working with this dough, it’s so versatile; you can bake it for 15-20 mns on 200ºC or leave it to air dry for 2 days, if you are using decorations that can’t be baked. If you are leaving it to air dry i suggest to flip it after one day. For instance, we used colorful plastic pieces to decorate the tree shape ornament, and kept it to dry without baking. handmade tree ornament 2Nady was so happy rolling the dough, cutting, and poking the colored plastic bits. Grand garcon (big boy). He got so excited, he sat on the table! handmade tree ornament 1This is how they look on the tree after they dry! handmade tree ornament 3The sky is the limit, you can do any Christmas related shape you want! handmade star ornament 1We used a straw to make the small hole, where we inserted a golden thread to be able to hang it on the tree. handmade star ornament 2handmade star ornament 3After baking these stars, i brushed them with little oil for a shiny look! We used the whole set of Christmas cookies cutters, so we did many shapes! handmade ornaments varietyhandmade cane ornamenthandmade ginger man ornamenthandmade bell ornamentAnd finally the colorful Christmas balls! I loved the outcome, the color blend makes you happy 🙂 handmade balls ornaments 2You can be as much creative as you want, all depending on the material you have and the age of your kids. You can paint, use glitter, beads, pompoms……Let them unleash the artist inside them! handmade balls ornaments 1handmade balls ornament 3These ornaments last for years if well stored in a dry container and not exposed to moisture in any way. Et voila our beautiful Christmas tree for the year 2014, done by Nady and the help of maman. 3a2bel kel seneh!
