Process art – Spinning for spring

Process art is when you’re enjoying the creative process, trying or inventing new techniques, introducing new elements from daily life, and the least you care about is working for the end result. In few words, process art is when the process of creating matters more than the result product.

Kids love process art, naturally they enjoy the journey more than the delivered product. They unleash their creativity, being all messy and mostly happy. Discovering and experiencing is the key! I was searching for a fun way of painting to start the spring/Easter decoration. I wanted Nady to be excited about the activity and enjoy the preparations. I came across the spin art paint.

Without thinking twice i knew this is the type of activity that Nady will love. I got a

salad spinner
vibrant colors paint
card boards (cut in 18x18cm square)

… and here we go!

Put the paper inside the salad spinner, squirt some paint and spin!

We repeated many times with different colors combination and each time was more beautiful. In spin art paint we didn’t just enjoy the process but we were in love with the end product as well! Nady didn’t want to stop.

We kept them overnight to dry before mounting them on foam boards.

Nady was so happy he couldn’t wait to hang them on the wall. We both enjoyed this process art and the surprise effect with each time we open the salad spinner to discover a new painting. We decided to do all our decorations this way!

The next day we repeated the same process with smaller pieces of paper to create a spring garland!

That’s it for now but it’s not all. Wait for more posts of spin art process, we still have almost 3 weeks to Easter and a lot to do. Stay tuned!

Santa napkin – DIY

This is the first time i am hosting my family for Christmas dinner after 4 years of marriage; we were alternating between my parents house and my in laws. I am beaming with excitement, it’s also Joud’s first Christmas. I want everything to be up to this special holiday, this year should be memorable.

Beside crafting some of the decorations with my son, my little artist, dressing the table for the traditional réveillon, is as important. A simple yet enticing Santa napkin will add a festive mood to the dinner.

It’s so simple and easy that your little ones can be involved in the making. All you need is red napkins, white pompoms and click here to download a printable file for Santa’s face that you need to cut out.

Place one on each plate, wow your guests and let your table radiate with joy!

Fingerprint art project – Surpriiiiise!!

Nady loves the crafty projects especially the ones that involves art and colors. This fun activity takes art to another level. We created an abstract art piece that reveals a surprise at the end.

I started by taping off Nady’s first initial onto a piece of paper. I gave him a palette full of paint and asked him to fill all the paper with fingerprints, dots created by his index to practice finger isolation.

Finger isolation is a fine motor activity using one finger to perform a task that will reveal its magic later in writing, tying the shoes, typing on a keyboard and many other skills….

We spent fun time covering all the white spaces on the paper experiencing various colors, mixing and learning difference between dark and light colors.

When he was done I pulled off the tape to show him what he had created. He was so happy and fascinated. Process of discovering many types of art medium and the surprise element is so magnetic for kids.

Not only was it a fun craft to make, but it was also a great way to teach:

finger isolation (fine motor)
finger’s name (using the index)
colors
shapes (round and dot)
the letter “N”, his name’s initial
And counting

Nady liked it so much, he decided that this piece of art is going to be added to his wall of art.

Fantastick art

Children enjoy having a go at arts and crafts activities, especially cutting, gluing and sticking. If your child is not old enough to use scissors and glue, it’s a brilliant activity for collage. All you need to do is tape a clear contact paper with the sticky side up, give him colorful paper cut outs, pompoms, wiggling eyes, feathers…. (anything you find in your creative play box) and watch him making shapes and getting creative. Today Fouad, (Nady’s friend) is participating as well. Hourray amigo!

This activity is amazing for fine motor skills as for teaching geometric shapes, colors, textures and introducing new words… It’s important to know that your child’s messy art represents a huge milestone in their physical development. In the space of one year your child has gone from not even knowing they have hands to being able to cut or glue or just stick, it needs enough pressure, and fine motricity skills. That’s incredible!

As children get older, arts and crafts help them to socialize with others, they get together to play and create. It’s no secret, doing such activities in groups (or at least tow kids) provides a positive outlet for children to share, socialize and express their emotions.

it’s an open ended activity, you start by something and ends up by playing other totally different games. For instance, Nady was enjoying the paper rain, (throwing on him the small pieces of colored papers as if it’s rain) and imitating the rain sound!

After sticking for long time, the boys got enough (and it’s normal after 2 hours) they switched to basketball, and left behind those two beautiful pieces.

chalk spray art for your kids

It’s a definite outdoor activity; so much fun but so messy, I am telling you! (but since it’s a washable paint don’t worry).

Lucky us we have a beautiful space at jeddo and teta house, but still my little artist manage to spray the walls, plants, curtains… leaving behind memorable pieces of art.

To make the chalk sprayable paint you need:

spraying bottles
1/4 cup corn starch
1/4 cup baking soda
3 cups warm water
food coloring gel (wilton as i always recommend)

You have to really mix well until all dissolved, and shake it before starting to spray.

The world of water, colors and art provides a soothing sensory experience and it’s an excellent avenue for children to learn physical, cognitive and social skills. I love those kind of messy activities, It’s an important part of early education. Children will be given the tools to develop and practice fine motor skills, for instance, spraying bottles are great for developing kids tiny hand muscles.

Get down on the floor with your child. You are the ultimate plaything, and any activity will seem more fun if your child can share it with you. Introduce the game and let your child improvise. But always talk to him while you play and you’ll help boost his language skills.

Chalk spray art develops concentration, problem-solving and planning. He learns how to aim correctly, but trust me in the beginning he will spray everywhere.

This game is open ended. You can introduce the brush or your kid favorite play thing. Nady decided to spray the balloons, his favorite toy. He was extremely happy!

Small tip: If your bottle nozzles are clogging, means the inner tubing is touching the floor of the bottle. You only need to snip off a small piece of the tube so it doesn’t sit in the residual corn starch and get clogged.
