How to decorate easter eggs with paper napkins – Dye free technique

final outcome1

Very easy technique to decorate eggs, and it’s safe to eat them later. You don’t need colorings nor any other unsafe products. All you need is:

  • hard boiled eggs
  • paper napkin of your choice
  • 1 cup of water + 1 tsp cornstarch

method

Technique:

Brush the napkin, gently with the mixture water corn starch, until it’s spread on all the egg. Cut the excess of paper and keep it aside to dry.

If little wrinkles show, no worries, this is the beauty of handmade things, but try to spread the napkin as much as you can.

Napkins come in so many colors and designs, the choices are endless. What a smart technique for dye-free Easter eggs!!

how to make elegant easter eggs- step by step

elegant eggs

For elegant yet simple Easter eggs, it’s a must to use gold or silver color and it’s the material that will make it look fancy.

I chose to dye the eggs with acrylic gold paint using my hand to make it look like patina effect.

Give it some time to dry before applying the paillette line. Fix it with glue for safe results, I used super glue.

how to dye noodles for rainbow sensory play

rainbow noodles

Cooked noodles are so much fun for a sensory play. Dye them in rainbow colors and let the amusement begin.

Boil the noodles as instructed on the box, better al dente so they are not sticky or coat them with a touch of oil. Divide them into bowls for each color. Mix with the food coloring, (I always recommend the wilton icing gel to save yourself from stains) and let them dry for 15-20 mns. Now they are ready for play!

I wanted this experience to be even more fun, I packed the rainbow noodles in a plastic container and head to Aspire park, one of the beautiful parks in Doha.

For the first 10 minutes, the rainbow remained  intact. He was just contemplating the beautiful rainbow. So we decided to take it out of the container to start playing.

More squeezing and squashing were expected but my boy was a bit repelled since he is not used to touch food with his hands, my mistake for having OCD tendencies 🙂 so i decided to participate in the play to encourage him.

creative easter eggs – bunnies, carrots and chicks

Coloring eggs should be fun when you have kids. Just normal dyeing is not enough to impress my boy. we need creative ideas? and that’s how it started…

Bunnies, carrots and chicks and let the fun begin!

Dye the eggs with orange to make the carrots.

Then cut papers from different shades of green (to look realistic) as medium thin strips to make the carrots stems. I used wax gun to stick them.

And the carrots are ready.

Now we want bunnies to eat those carrots. No need to color the eggs, white is perfect. Cut out two big and two small ovals for the ears.

Click bunny ears to download a high resolution file.

The nose is a small pompom bought ready made (for people in qatar you can buy it from daiso). Draw eyes and moustache with a black marker.

And the family bunnies found the carrots!

Adding chicks made the whole thing so cool. 3 easy steps to follow:

  • color blue eggs
  • stick yellow triangle for the nose
  • 2 black dots for the eyes

Then i realized there should be a male chick! Small rectangular cuts on a red paper and the comb is done!

I like the egg carton color, so why not use it for the decoration?!

homemade bathtub paint

IMG_8446

Bath time is always fun, why not make it even more fun by introducing paint to your baby. “Safe paint” made by you at home. Great idea when it’s inconvenient to go out and play.

Sensory play are very important to your babies and toddlers, they can experience stimulation of their senses. In other words your kids discover and understand life through their senses.

I spotted this recipe while surfing on the net. Very Easy and simple, only 4 ingredients:

IMG_8427

  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup baby shampoo
  • 4-5 drops of food coloring
  • 2-3 tbsp water

Use a tear free shampoo, so when it gets into the eyes, it’s not the end of the fun.

I put the colors in separate disposable containers, no need to wash later, just throw them.
