  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cup milk

Mix together dry ingredients and make a well in the center. Mix egg and milk until combined, pour it in the well along with melted butter. Whisk until all ingredients are incorporated.

Heat a pan greased with butter. Poor the same amount of batter each time to get homogeneous pancakes (i used a quarter cup to control the size). Cook each side for 2-4 minutes until nicely browned.

le Soleil nutella puff pastry

le Soleil nutella puff pastry|marmite et ponpon

A gooey sun, made of two ingredients and thousand feelings of bliss. Each ray takes you to a different world full of light and warmth especially when shared with a family. One of the best things during summer vacation, i get to share my recipes with my family, not just for appreciation but for the pleasure of sharing. I believe, the best family gatherings are over food!

It’s a very simple and easy dessert prepared in no time and served in less than half an hour. All you need is 2 sheets of puff pastries, thawed and rolled into 2 same size circles, and 1 1/2 cup of Nutella.

Place one of the puff pastry sheets on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Spread the Nutella avoiding 2cm from the edge. Brush this left 2cm with water and place the other puff pastry sheet on top and press them well together.

Place the lid of Nutella jar in the middle and cut into 4 rays starting from the lid. Then cut each quarter in half, then each eighth also in half. You will get a total of 16 rays.

Remove the lid and start twisting each ray by putting your finger near the center and gently make 3-4 turns. Repeat with each ray.

Preheat oven to 200°C. Brush with egg wash (one egg + 1tsp cold water) and bake for 20 mins or until nicely golden. Let it barely cool done before all get their hands on it.

Do i even need to say that the end result was heavenly? Nothing was left after 10 minutes! Only the trace of “once upon a time there was a sunny flaky Nutella pie on this parchment paper…” it’s always a happy ending when there is chocolate!

See you in the next fairy tale…

A summer addiction: Watermelon and Bulgarian salad

Watermelon and bulgarian cheese|marmite et ponpon

I believe that salads promoting fruits are always a hit especially for summers days. Watermelon and Bulgarian cheese is a perfect refreshing salad, celebrating summer at its best. If you wish to impress your guests, this is one incredible salad that deserves a big applause.

Everything about this salad is amazing, from the watermelon to the Bulgarian cheese, rocket leaves, fresh mint leaves and roasted almonds. And I decided to top it off with a sweet balsamic and olive oil dressing.  It was the perfect finishing touch to this salad.

There is no precise amount for the ingredients, you will need pieces of watermelon cut in square shapes and slices of Bulgarian cheese, same size, to insert between. You decide how many piece you need, depending on the amount of guests you have. Top each watermelon and cheese square with rocket leaves and few fresh mint leaves. A handful roast almonds to give it some crunchiness. Drizzle a little of olive oil and sweet balsamic glaze.

Achtalyeh – cream pudding

achtalyeh -cream pudding|marmite et ponpon

Achtalyeh, Lebanese cream pudding, is one of the most famous homemade dessert. Achta (arabic word) means cream, though its recipe doesn’t call for cream but i assure you it’s so creamy as in texture.

It might look a very simple dessert with ordinary ingredients, but when adding orange blossom water and mastic, the whole thing is taken to another level.

Heavenly texture, flavors and aromas in less than 10 minutes and with only 5 ingredients:

  • 1 L milk
  • 5 tbsp cornflour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • mastic, 3 pebbles grounded
  • 2 tbsp orange blossom water

Mix the milk, corn flour and sugar together and place over medium heat and keep stirring until the mixture becomes viscous then add the orange blossom and mastic. Whisk for a minute and take off the heat.

Pour in cups and let it cool to room temperature before putting in the fridge for at least 5 hours, or better for overnight.

Usually it’s served with sugar syrup if you fancy a really sweet dessert. To prepare this syrup you need:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp orange blossom

Combine water, sugar and lemon juice. Place over medium heat to allow the sugar to melt, keep stirring until it starts to thicken. Add the orange blossom and remove from heat.

Sprinkle with crushed pistachio or almond and serve. Usually i prepare this dessert (without syrup) for my kids, they love it! You can skip adding mastic if you’re preparing it for your baby, it will still be so tasty. My 10 months old boy loves it, it’s a wholesome dessert for kids and also can replace the breakfast.

Supreme brie and turkey cranwich

turkey and brie cranwich|marmite et ponpon

Brie and turkey in ciabatta sandwich, is kicked up a notch by adding cranberry and caramelized onion. I heart sandwiches, it’s my favorite type of any meal of the day, especially when served with a green salad.

I love trying new and delicious combinations and jazzing it up by incorporating spreads, veggies and fruits. This brie and turkey cranwich is so easy to make and the result is spectacular.

The cranberry sauce (i used the jellied one but you can use the whole cranberry too) was definitely one of the wow factors in this sandwich but personally i confirm that the caramelized onion and rucola leaves were the best addition that enlivened the whole thing.

  • ciabatta bread (two pieces)
  • 8- 10 slices honey roasted turkey breast
  • 6 slices (1cm thick) brie
  • 3 tbsp cranberry sauce
  • 1/2 cup caramelized onion (1 big onion)
  • handful rucola

You don’t have to follow the quantity 100%, plus or minus as per your taste won’t harm the recipe. This is the amazing thing about sandwiches; follow your taste!
