Handmade Christmas tree ornaments- crafts for tiny hands

handmade christmas tree ornamentsChristmas is my favorite holiday; so joyful, festive and special for what it represents. When you say Christmas you immediately think of the decorated trees, shopping for gifts, lights, beautiful decorations, happy family gatherings, jingle bells, yummy food, midnight mass, visiting friends and family, kids waiting for Santa… and by the way my husband proposed to me on the Christmas eve! I always thought it can’t get better until my love Nady was born, he became the Christmas and the joy of the family! I admit that kids take Christmas to another level of feelings to discover that happiness is a small word to what you actually feel. He changed the whole concept and added more magic and excitement to this season. This year, we are decorating the house together, and specifically the tree. Handmade ornaments with salt dough!  I love when he is involved in the crafts, it’s a quality and fun time together! Mon amour d’artiste! christmas tree with handmade ornaments:nadychristmas tree with handmade ornaments 3christmas tree with handmade ornaments 2Very simple craft, doesn’t require a lot of ingredients and the outcome is wow! With just flour, salt and water you can do these beautiful ornaments! Mix:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1/2 cup water

and knead until smooth. If your dough is still crumbly you can add more water, or if it’s sticky you can add flour, you can always correct flour and water to get the consistency you want. Add coloring gel to the dough or paint it later if your kids are old enough to create designs on them. I love working with this dough, it’s so versatile; you can bake it for 15-20 mns on 200ºC or leave it to air dry for 2 days, if you are using decorations that can’t be baked. If you are leaving it to air dry i suggest to flip it after one day. For instance, we used colorful plastic pieces to decorate the tree shape ornament, and kept it to dry without baking. handmade tree ornament 2Nady was so happy rolling the dough, cutting, and poking the colored plastic bits. Grand garcon (big boy). He got so excited, he sat on the table! handmade tree ornament 1This is how they look on the tree after they dry! handmade tree ornament 3The sky is the limit, you can do any Christmas related shape you want! handmade star ornament 1We used a straw to make the small hole, where we inserted a golden thread to be able to hang it on the tree. handmade star ornament 2handmade star ornament 3After baking these stars, i brushed them with little oil for a shiny look! We used the whole set of Christmas cookies cutters, so we did many shapes! handmade ornaments varietyhandmade cane ornamenthandmade ginger man ornamenthandmade bell ornamentAnd finally the colorful Christmas balls! I loved the outcome, the color blend makes you happy 🙂 handmade balls ornaments 2You can be as much creative as you want, all depending on the material you have and the age of your kids. You can paint, use glitter, beads, pompoms……Let them unleash the artist inside them! handmade balls ornaments 1handmade balls ornament 3These ornaments last for years if well stored in a dry container and not exposed to moisture in any way. Et voila our beautiful Christmas tree for the year 2014, done by Nady and the help of maman. 3a2bel kel seneh! Soft as a cloud – personalized baby welcoming decorations

“Once upon a time…

Traditionally, tales often start with these words to get listeners ready for a different kind of discourse: a narrative, set in a kind of dream time that is apart from, but closely involved with, ordinary reality.

My fairy tale is a typical one, starting with once upon a time… (but its events are not imaginary; the story starts in a specific time, in the real world and the characters are so living! But the story is so magical that you feel you are in a dream…) a beautiful angel was born!

Congratulations to my dear friend Hajar and her husband Elie for the birth of their second boy Jad.

Definitely the closing is ….and they lived happily ever after! Actually it is not the end, it’s the beginning of life.

Get a roll of white paper, some colors and get down with your child to design the best gift wrap that papa will find more important than the gift itself. As i always say small things done with big love are the most important.

It is not just beautiful but unique and so meaningful! This is one side and here is the other side:

DIY fridge magnet for a birthday daily note surprise

fridge magnet DIYAntoun’s Bday is in less than a week! Nady’s is so excited about it, especially he loves birthdays and singing “to you” (happy birthday to you). We decided to make for him a daily small drawing with a cute message till the big day comes (tuesday, october 7). Happiness and love are in small details, and it’s so important to teach your kids how small gestures can bring happiness to someone and show care and love. Our motto is “we don’t do big things, we do small things with big love”- mother teresa

To post them, there was no better than the fridge to serve us as a message board, therefore we needed magnets. It was so quick and super easy to craft them, we just glued small magnets on colored buttons and that’s it! I told you it’s super easy 🙂

fridge magnet DIYNady took care of the drawing part and i did the writings. It was so fun thinking that Antoun will love it and wait for his daily dose of love from us!

fridge magnet DIYThat was our first note on the fridge. Aren’t these buttons so cute?! But nady didn’t like the fridge so plain, he wanted to draw on it as well. Why not?! this is a cool idea, now the fridge is a mini gallery! With beeswax crayons (safe and so easy to clean) he did a really good work and concretized his dream of drawing everywhere with no restrictions… Everything is permitted, it’s “papa to you” (daddy’s bday) surprise.

fridge magnet DIYYesterday we posted our second note with more drawings! Now I am sure Antoun is waiting impatiently for his daily note!

fridge magnet DIYToday we posted our third note. Antoun didn’t see it yet, he will now as he is reading the post.

There will be 4 more notes until the birthday. It’s an ongoing post, come back everyday to check the new images updated for the daily notes. See how the fridge will look on the day of Antoun’s birthday 🙂

As promised this is today’s fourth note.

Digging toys in ice sculpture

ice sculpture

An enthralling sensory play to experience melting ice. Very simple activity but has a lot to discover and learn. You will hear lots of ahhhhhs once your kid touches the ice. Nady was so fascinated by his frozen toys and got so excited to melt the ice and take them out, he got so driven, he forgot how cold the ice was.

How to do this beautiful sculpture? I put Nady’s favorite small toys in 3 different shape containers, added few drops of food coloring and froze them for over night. To remove the ice, I ran water over the outside of each container and held it upside down. I placed the three parts on top of each other to make the sculpture like form.

We started with squeeze bottles full of warm water, Nady was in a hurry to take out his yellow ball!

Nady was so enthusiastic, he was eating raisins when we started the play, he grabbed the bowl to fill it with water to throw it on ice, experiencing different ways maybe the gush of water can melt the ice faster!

Now it’s hammering time we should get all toys out!

It’s a fun activity for all the family actually, we were all playing with Nady! We must admit it’s a senses stimulating play, (experiencing hot – warm – cold and of course solid – liquid or frozen – melted) it fosters learning in all developmental areas and engages extra words to your kid’s lexicon.

All toys are out, mission accomplished! Nady’s hands were ice cold, but he was warm at the heart! He really enjoyed playing…
